Free webcomic or published comic...?

Posted by Sony-Shock - September 6th, 2019

I'm writing a comic script and my wife says I should pitch it for publishing, while I was thinking or updating it for free as a webcomic, maybe producing merch after and supported by my patreon. I feel a published work would have no engagement

Thoughts?

If you live in the USA or UK, than published comics are kinda a dying medium. Digital comics will hopefully make sales pick up, but there are no grantees. Meanwhile you can theoretically reach much bigger audience with a webcomic. the likes of gunnerkrigg court or homestuck are much more popular and well known than most indie comics excluding the ones that get adapted to shows and movies.

meant to say guarantee

O, my apologies, you are Spanish so I have no idea how your comic industry stands in regards to sales. But if you plan for it to be in english than you may still want to consider what I have said.

Oh, don't worry, I'm spanish but I live in USA! You actually were pretty helpful, don't worry 'v'

I think that it might be easier to make a webcomic and later print volumes of it than to jump straight into more traditional publishing.
Whatever you decide I wish you the best.
